Albert Gutierrez's Obituary
Albert “Shorty Santana” Gutierrez, age 71 of San Bernardino, California passed away on January 23rd, 2022 in his home with his Family while on hospice care. Albert Gutierrez suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with terminal Liver Cancer. He passed away peacefully in his sleep a week after his diagnosis. He was born November 15, 1950 in Anapra, New Mexico to Jesus Gutierrez and Josephine (Carrillo) Gutierrez. He is survived by his four sons, Albert Gutierrez Jr (47), Joseph Gutierrez (45), Albert Jonathan Gutierrez (34), and Joshua Giovanni Gutierrez (32). Albert had four grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Albert Gutierrez, like his father who served in WWII and Vietnam, and his brother Lalo who Served in Vietnam, joined the United States Navy after high school where he served aboard the Flagship USS Oklahoma City in the Vietnam War. His decorations include the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Campaign Medal. Albert Gutierrez worked the last 14 years at San Bernardino Valley College as a custodian where he was beloved by the whole campus and proud to be a Wolverine. In his free time, Albert enjoyed shooting guns, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and listening to Oldies. Albert was an avid DJ for Valley College events year around and even the occasional wedding. Albert observed his A.A. birthday on January 15th, 2022; celebrating 23 years of sobriety. Albert Gutierrez had a big heart and was always helping everyone around him. The Gutierrez Family, the Valley College staff, and many more are deeply saddened by his sudden loss.
