Erlinda Romo Alvarado

January 16, 1935 – May 15, 2025 Erlinda (Linda) Romo Alvarado, at the age of 90, went to be with the Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband William S. Alvarado, father Frederico Romo Sr., mother Mary Fernandez Romo, and other family members that surely welcomed her with loving arms. Linda was born on January 16, 1935, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was one of eight children born to Frederico and Mary Romo. She had five brothers; Frederico Jr., Andy, Jessie, Joe, and Chevo; and two sisters; Mary and Natividad (Nati). In 1941 the Romo family moved to California. By this time, Linda attended Roosevelt Elementary School and then Sturges High School. In 1949, during her teen years, one day she met a young man by the name of “Willie”, she happened to be neighbors with a friend of Willie’s and one day that friend introduced them. One year later, they would wed. On April 15th, 1950, in Yuma, Arizona they married and on November 4th of that same year they had a Catholic ceremony at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in San Bernardino, California. San Bernardino is where they would come to reside and start a family. Linda was a devoted wife and mother of six children. Their first born was Angeline (Angie) followed by two more girls, Ofelia (Fela) and Sylvia. Three boys came next: Daniel (Danny), William Jr. (Billy). and Jose (Joey). She was actively involved with her children, in school and with the boys in their sports, spending countless hours at the baseball fields. She also loved watching her favorite team on TV, the LA Dodgers. As her children grew and had families of their own, family gatherings at the Alvarado home were a big deal to her, she expected all her children and their children to be there for the important holidays. She would prepare days before, whether it was Capirotada during Lent, Pumpkin Pies for Thanksgiving, Rum Cakes for Christmas and yes, her most famous delicious Tamales. And, if you were special, she would make you her tiny pancakes in her cast iron skillet. There was always some sort of celebration going on that she would cook for, it seemed the gatherings were never ending. Family gatherings meant a lot to her, whether it was a visit from her children, grandchildren, her siblings, nieces or nephews, she loved to see and visit with them. Besides cooking and baking for family gatherings, her other hobbies included sewing. She sewed numerous things, something for as many of her family members as her hands allowed her. She also loved growing things in her garden, chiles, to make fresh salsa and other things. She loved to collect things also, she had a large collection of salt and pepper shakers, cuckcoo clocks, dolls, clowns and other figurines. She was fortunate to have worked at the thrift store “Value Village” for a period, this is where she accumulated some of her most favorite things collected. Sometime during the year of 1997, when Willie retired, Linda, Willie and Chuey then moved to San Luis, Colorado and enjoyed retired life for about 15 years there. While in Colorado, they both enjoyed hunting trips in the mountains of Colorado, picking pine nuts and she especially enjoyed socializing at the town senior center. Sometime during the year 2011 Linda and Willie returned to San Bernardino, where they would spend the rest of their years at their home on Magnolia St. And, in 2023 they celebrated 73 years of marriage. Just a year later, Willie would leave her to prepare their next resting place, the greatest of all places and one year following, together again they are. Linda is the last member of her immediate family that has come to rest and is preceded in death by her husband William S. Alvarado, parents Frederico and Mary Romo, brothers Frederico Jr., Andy, Jessie, Joe, and Chevo, and two sisters; Mary and Natividad (Nati). Linda is survived by three daughters; Angie, Fela, Sylvia and three sons; Danny (Cindy), Billy (Michelle) and Joey (Anna); and many Grandchildren; Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren and others that will miss her dearly! ♥
