Gilbert Leo Aguilar's Obituary
Gilbert L. Aguilar
11/17/1958 - 03/20/2024
San Bernardino, California
In loving memory of Gilbert L. Aguilar, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, and friend. Gil's journey on this earth began on November 17, 1958, in the city of San Bernardino, where he was also raised. He attended San Bernardino High School and later contributed to creating header kits for Hooker Headers in Ontario while also working as a respiratory equipment tech at San Bernardino County Hospital in his early career.
Gil was not only a dedicated worker but also a talented musician. He played the trumpet and was proficient with the Drum Major baton. After leaving college, he generously assisted San Bernardino High School by sharing his expertise to help train the school's drum major at the beginning of his young adult life.
Gil then dedicated himself to serving others within the San Bernardino City Unified School District. First as a recreation aide at Roosevelt Elementary School, and then as a health aide at Emerton Elementary School, Curtis Middle School, and San Bernardino High School. Later in his career, he transitioned to a managerial role at AutoZone, where his leadership skills continued to shine.
Throughout his life, Gil was known for his dedication to his family and his community. He found immense joy in coaching softball, particularly for his daughters, and remained closely involved with the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Gil had a passion for classic cars, the soulful melodies of trumpet players like Maynard Ferguson, and the simple joy of laughter through comedy.
Gil leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Rosemary S. Aguilar, with whom he was about to celebrate their anniversary on April 24, 2024. Also mourning his loss are his four children, Gilbert (Armi) Aguilar, Monique Aguilar, Kristen Aguilar, and Tania Zuniga Lara, as well as his adored granddaughter, Eleanore Aguilar.
In accordance with Gil's final wishes, a memorial gathering will be held at the Aguilar residence on April 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM, where he found the most joy surrounded by those he loved. True to his spirit, the gathering will be a casual backyard barbecue, a reflection of Gil's down-to-earth nature and preference for simplicity over formality.
Friends and family are invited to join together to celebrate Gil's life, share stories, and find comfort in each other's company. It will be a time to honor his memory in a manner that reflects the warmth and inclusivity he always extended to others.
As we gather to pay tribute to Gil, let us carry forward his spirit of camaraderie, laughter, and love for those closest to him. In this informal setting, surrounded by the people and the things he held most dear, we will find solace in the memories we shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
