John Hernandez's Obituary
On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, John Adrian “J.J.” Hernandez, loving son, brother, godfather, and uncle, passed away at the age of 48. John was born on October 31, 1976, in San Bernardino, California, and lived and worked in San Bernardino, Rancho Cucamonga, and New York City. He graduated from Colton High School in 1994, where he ran cross-country, played tennis, and performed in the school theater. After high school John worked at Fedco, and in 2003 he joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked as a records clerk, service specialist, and custody specialist for over 22 years. In 2001, he moved to Brooklyn and worked in the Bronx as a security specialist for the New York City Department of Homeless Services. He also worked as a charcuterie expert at Gourmet Garage.
When he wasn’t working, John poured his energy into his family and friends, from joining in holiday and birthday celebrations, spoiling his nieces and nephews—real and “adopted”— bringing jokes and good pizza to any party. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose. John is survived by sisters Angela and Andrea (Jose) and brother Steve (Erika); nephew Steven, and nieces Rosa, Savannah, Charlene, and Cassandra. Rosary service will be held at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11 am, at San Salvador Catholic Church in Colton on Friday, October 31. Repass to follow from 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John’s memorial fundraising campaign on behalf of the American Diabetes Association.
