Maria De La Luz Saucedo's Obituary
Maria De La Luz Saucedo was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and school teacher. She was always kind, honest and had love for everyone. She always welcomed you in and would offer you some coffee or some of her famous Lucy’s tacos, she would often say “Hecha te un café” or “Hecha te un taco”. Some of her other Spanish sayings were “Es la ley de la vida” or “Ayuda te que Dios te ayudade”. She was very social, enjoyed taking pictures and had lots of photo albums of her children, grandchildren and vacation trips.
Maria De La Luz passed on October 29, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born on April 9, 1934 to Maria & Jesus Cordova. She was the second of 9 children and often would help her mother watch her younger brothers and sisters all of whom she was very close to. One of her first jobs in Mexico was working at a jewelry store; she always enjoyed her jewelry. Maria and Alfredo were married on June 18, 1957 in Las Cruces NM. She began her new life in El Paso, TX then on to Los Angeles, CA. Her and Alfredo loved dancing to live big band music like Lawrence Welk. She started her family with Alfredo being blessed with five children Alfredo, Alex, Lucy, Patricia and George. She always enjoyed large family dinners during the holidays, preparing the table with decorations and bringing out her best silverware and china. As we grew up she always made it a point to cook us some food even if we were heading out the door. Our mother always gave us an atmosphere of love in our household that we will never forget. She would faithfully go to Sunday mass and sometimes encourage us that if we went along with her we would get an ice cream afterwards. Her career began as a teacher’s aide in some of her own children’s classrooms. She went on to receive her college degree and became a Head Start school teacher with the Mountain View School District. She enjoyed working with children and was happy to win the “School Teacher of the Year” award in 1989. She was an amazing woman raising five children and also continued to have her teaching career for over 30 years retiring in 1999. She was adventurous; traveling throughout Europe, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii and owned a timeshare in Mazatlan that she and Alfredo would enjoy for many years. In her retirement she also had fun going to the casino with Alfredo and family. She always cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren
and going to family functions. She lived out her final years in Menifee, California with her family and loved ones.
