Raymundo Ornelas' Obituary
Raymundo Ornelas, a retired resident of Highland, California, passed-away at 90 years old September 10, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 74 years Benita; his children Raymundo Jr, Carlos, Frank, Margarita, Cecilia, Martin, and his 14 grand-children and 24 great grandchildren. His son Raul, two grandchildren and 1 great grandchild predeceased him.
Raymundo was born in El Paso, Texas in 1931 to Beatrice Velarde and Jose Ornelas. He came from a family of 16 children who lived in Juarez Mexico. He described his life as hard work to survive by shining shoes, selling newspapers, and picking cotton. He never imagined that his future was living next door to him in Juarez. He met his wife at six years old and they married at sixteen. Better job prospects moved them to Los Angeles where he spent the next forty years working as a truck driver and raising seven children.
Raymundo was an avid reader, he loved to travel, sing his and Benita’s favorite songs and enjoyed watching the Dodgers. He often reminisced about attending the first Dodger game at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1958 against the Giants. He also loved gardening, walking in the early morning, tinkering with his tools in the garage and playing card games on his Kindle. Most of all, he loved his wife. All his life he watched over her and she made sure he was comfortable. Memories of their lifelong friendship, marriage, and immeasurable devotion to each other will stay with his family forever. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A viewing will be conducted at Preciado Funeral Home 923 W. Mill St. San Bernardino, CA 92410 from 5pm-9pm.
